Downtown Shopping

Okay, so you find yourself in Downtown Claremont, in "The Village," and you absolutely have to have The Shins new album, "Wincing the Night Away." What to do, what to do? Count your lucky stars because Claremont is home to one of Southern California's greatest independent music stores, Rhino Records! Yes, you are lucky my friend.

Rhino brings back
memories of old LA stalwarts like Aron's Records when it used to be across the street from Fairfax High School, back before it moved to Highland and before it closed for good. You'd wade through the used vinyl and cassettes--this was waaay before CD's--and pluck out just the used album you were looking for and shell out a couple bucks for your prize.

So here you are in "The Village." No need to trek up to Hollywood to Amoeba Music. No, no. You can get that Shins CD and that Charlie Mingus and that Willie Nelson/Merle Haggard/ Ray Price work you've had your eye on.

While you're there, take a trip around the corner to Video Paradiso, the next best thing to The New Beverly Cinema in the Inland Empire until the new Laemmle theater opens. You can get Volver and Matador or host your own Ingmar Bergman retrospective.

Do it!
