Ontario's Super Wal-Mart Moving Forward

Claremont isn't the only city fighting its residents over a proposed development.

The city of Ontario, a few miles to the east of us, is planning on putting in a Wal-Mart Supercenter on the west side of Mountain Ave. at 5th St., just south of the 10 Freeway.

The project has gone through an EIR process, just as Claremont's affordable housing project is going through one now. As with Claremont's project, the city of Ontario was working with a private entity to try to shepherd the company through the EIR process, which has been completed.

Last year, Ontario's Planning Commission certified the Wal-Mart EIR, and the Ontario City Council denied an appeal by a citizen's group. The project seems to be rolling along, though some people are still trying to oppose the big box store.

Luckily for Claremonters, they're only fighting the Claremont 400, not a Fortune 500 company. Good luck to the folks in Ontario, Jib Jab at least has got your backs:
