The Claremont Courier yesterday had an article about a group called Claremont Drinking Liberally. The group, organized by David Withers, meets every Wednesday night at 7:30pm at the Casablanca Bar & Grill in the Claremont Packing House.
The article is not posted on the Courier's website, but it explained that the weekly meetings provide an excuse for people of like political views to get together and socialize. There are chapters throughout the country, and Withers started CDL back in October, according to the Courier article.
The Courier piece gave this description of a CDL get-together:
With no agenda, no speeches, no dues, no work, no expectations - other than Mr.Withers' 2 life rules, "pay attention and vote" - Claremont Drinking Liberally provides an easy-going atmosphere in which to talk, learn, joke, vent frustrations and enjoy new friendships.
....At CDL, nothing is taboo, no one is judged, and laughter and solemnity share equal airtime. And, local politics and politicians are not exempt from the dialogue.
"I get mad at [Corey Calaycay] a lot, but you can talk to him. He's honest," said Gwen Carr, former Claremont Committee on Human Relations member and chair and Humans Services commissioner who was recently elected as a delegate to the State Democratic District.
"Who is that dodo guy on city council?" said another.
"City elections are non-partisan,"said one, to which another responded, "If only!"
Claremont Drinking Liberally has a website and its own blog, as well, maintained by Withers.
We don't know if people of other political persuasions have their own social clubs, but maybe there's a market for Quaffing Conservatively or Imbibing Independently. If they are any of those out there, let us know.
