The Courier's Tony Krickl attended last night's City City Council affordable housing meeting. Judging from Krickl's account, it sounds as if there was a lot of behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
The council ended up going for the lower density option that had fewer family units and more senior housing for the project at the old Claremont Courier site at 111 S. College Ave. The option the council chose ends up costing the city $485,000 more out of the General Fund than the higher density option that was originally considered. According to Krickl, the lower density choice was floated in response to neighbors' objections to the original plan.
