Crime Report

POLICE BLOTTER

Lots of crime news recently:

The Daily Bulletin noted that a woman was stabbed near Bonita and Oberlin yesterday as she was walking home from work. Claremont police arrested a suspect, transient Kai Cheng, a short time later on the 800 block of West 1st St.

The Bulletin article said that friends of the victim thought the assailant may have been trying to steal the victim's purse, though the police dispute that.

The Bulletin also carried a brief piece two days ago about a 23-year-old woman who suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns while trying to set fire to herself in the Denny's Restaurant at 820 S. Indian Hill Blvd.

The woman apparently said the self-immolation was in response to her seeing the devil.

Also, back on December 8th, three men were convicted of attempted murder and assault for an an attack a year earlier on a black man who was stabbed during the altercation.

The attack, which has been called a hate crime, occurred near the Baker's Square Restaurant at Indian Hill Blvd. and San Jose Ave. According to the 12/22/07 Los Angeles Times:

Joseph Dale McCool, 21, of Yucca Valley; Anthony Scott Allen, 24, of Big Bear City; and Ryan Christopher White, 29, of Joshua Tree were convicted in a Pomona courtroom of attempted murder and assault charges in the Dec. 8, 2006, attack on Charles Washington.

The three are scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 1.

A fourth man, Chad Timothy Milson, 21, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors Thursday and received three years' probation, according to the court.

The attackers had stopped off in town on the way to a white-supremacist rally in Los Angeles when the incident occurred, the Times reported.
